Lijiang — Where Snow Mountains Meet Ancient Cobblestones
Lijiang is unlike any other city in China. The old town — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 — is a labyrinth of cobblestone lanes, tiled roofs, and crystal-clear streams fed by meltwater from the nearby mountains. The Naxi people, descendants of Tibetan-speaking tribes who once controlled the Tea Horse Road trade route, have preserved a culture that blends Han Chinese, Tibetan, and indigenous traditions into something wholly unique.
Above the ancient rooftops towers Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Xueshan), a 5,596-metre peak that has never been fully climbed. To the Naxi, it is a sacred guardian. To travellers, it is the backdrop to one of the most beautiful settings in all of Asia.

Lijiang is located in Northwest Yunnan Province, at an elevation of 2,400 metres. It is a 3-hour high-speed rail ride from Kunming, 2 hours from Dali, and serves as the gateway to Yunnan's legendary "Shangri-La" loop.
