August is China's peak summer month — hot, humid, and packed with domestic tourists on school holidays. But it's also when Inner Mongolia's grasslands roll green to the horizon, Qingdao taps its freshest draft beer, and Tibet opens its most spectacular trekking season. Where to Avoid in August
Same as July — Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Xi'an are furnace-hot. Additionally: all coastal beaches (except Qingdao and Dalian) are packed with domestic tourists. The Great Wall in August is shoulder-to-shoulder. This is China's busiest domestic travel month.

- Domestic tourism peaks in August — school holidays mean every attraction, train, and hotel is busier than usual. Book everything ahead, especially Friday–Sunday travel
- Typhoon season — if flying to/from Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, or Shenzhen, build in a buffer day for potential flight delays
- The heat is real — if visiting Beijing/Nanjing/Shanghai, plan indoor activities (museums, malls) from 12–4 PM. The metro is air-conditioned
